The tour over five days includes visits to both cathedrals, a synagogue and three National Trust properties. We also go on a conducted tour of Liverpool to see Anthony Gormley's Another Place and beatles haunts.

We visited Conwy Castle, Port Sunlight, the Llangollen canal and the Lady Lever Art Gallery among others.

Places are still available for this tour which includes visits to Trinity College and the Book of Kells, the National Gallery of Ireland, Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains and the notorious Kilmainham Goal

7th – 11th May 2017

Thirty four members of the Faversham DFAS travelled to Norwich for this 5 day tour.

In addition to having a tour of Norwich, its cathedral and castle we were also able to visit 2 properties, not normally open to the public, by the ‘Invitation to View’ scheme – Kirstead Hall and Voewood.  The former being a fine Grade I-listed Elizabethan manor house built about 1560 and the latter, one of the finest Arts and Crafts houses in Britain, built by E.S. Prior for Percy Lloy between 1903-5. It has been restored by rare book dealer, Simon Finch over six years to fulfil his loves of architecture, art and books.

We also enjoyed a trip on a Bure Valley narrow gauge railway and a delightful cruise on the broads from Wroxham.  The tour ended with a visit to Sandringham where we were able to enjoy both the House and extensive gardens.

17th – 22nd April 2016

Thirty three members of the Faversham DFAS branch and friends enjoyed an excellent tour of Berlin and Potsdam accompanied by a very knowledgeable local guide Tom Abbott. A number of museums were visited, highlights being the Market Gate of Miletus and the Ishtar Gate, both in the Pergamon museum and the bust of Nefertiti in the Neues Museum both on Museum Island. All found the Holocaust Memorial and the Jewish Museum moving.

We were able to visit some of Berlin and Potsdam’s many Palaces where we witnessed the splendour of these residences built or enhanced by the Prussian rulers of the 18th Century. Architecture surviving from the Nazi period, from the former East Berlin and that built since reunification was described and put into the context of the modern day Berlin.

The two reminders of the cold war, the Berlin Wall and Checkpoint Charlie are on everyone’s list of ‘must sees’ in Berlin. The section of the Wall now known as the East Side gallery, 1.3 km of open air murals depicting the changes brought about by the fall of the wall could not fail to impress; Checkpoint Charlie less so.

A fascinating and vibrant city to which many of us would gladly return.

On our tour this year we visited a number of locations for which Suffolk is justly famous. These included Gainsborough’s house in Sudbury which has an outstanding collection of the artist’s work together with 18th century furniture. A visit to Constable country included Dedham and Flatford mill. 

Our scenic cruise taking in the beautiful wooded stretches of the River Orwell was somewhat marred by the cold wind, however some hardy souls ventured out on deck. Other places of interest included Audley End House, Kentwell Hall and Aldeburgh.

Our thanks go to Jennie Jones and Anne Croydon for organising another great Faversham DFAS tour. Lots of sunshine and an excellent Blue-badge Guide who accompanied us in Northumberland. Our visits over six days included Harewood House, Durham Cathedral, Lindisfarne, Farne Island, Bowes Museum, National Trust house “Cragside” , Beamish Open-air Museum and the Hepworth in Wakefield.

Everybody enjoyed the trip and thank Anne and Bill Croydon for looking after us so well on this holiday.

We stayed in Caernarfon and had a five day holiday which included visits to Compton Verney Art Gallery,. Caernarfon Castle and Plas Newydd, a beautiful country house overlooking the Menai Straits and Snowdonia. We had two contrasting trips, visiting the Llachwedd Slate Caverns and then moving on to Portmeiron, an Italianate town built by a millionaire. The next day we visited the lovely gardens of Bodnant and Penrhyn Castle. On the way home we stopped off at Attringham Park.

The 40 members of NADFAS who went on this tour, all agreed it was a lovely holiday and our thanks once again go to Jennie Jones and Ann Croydon for their organisation and making sure that we all enjoyed ourselves.
